Janakpur, Nepal: The Province 2 government has decided to celebrate the Constitution Day on September 19 despite the protest of the Rastriya Janta Party-Nepal (RJP-N), a key coalition partner of the provincial government.
The province 2 government was formed in a coalition of Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal (SSF-N) and the RJP-N. The SSF-N is also a coalition partner in the federal government.
The Province 2 government has formally decided to celebrate the Constitution Day with different programs including the tree plantation program, Province 2 Chief Secretary Rajendra Man Singh has said on Monday.
Earlier, it was said that both the coalition partners- SSF-N and RJP-N would mark the Constitution Day as the Black Day.
The SSF-N, which is a coalition partner in the incumbent Nepal Communist Party (NCP) chairman KP Oli led federal government, remains mum over decision of the Province 2 government while RJP-N has been clinching on the stand to mark the Constitution Day as black day.
The Madhes-based political parties including the SSF-N and RJP-N had been marking the anniversary of the charter promulgation as a black day alleging to the state that the constitution was endorsed by the Constituent Assembly (CA) on September 19, 2015 amid protests from the Madhesi community.
As leaders from the two coalition partners of the province two government- SSF-N and RJP-N ad vowed to mark the Constitution Day as the black day, the federal government had issued a circular to all the provincial governments to celebrate the Constitution Day on Wednesday with much fanfare.
The RJP-N had already decided to stage protests in Madhes on the Constitution Day though its presidium meeting held on September 10 to 13 in Kathmandu. It is said that government would mobilize additional security personnel with intent to curb the untoward incidents.
