Kathmandu, Nepal: As the Constitutional Council (CC) meeting held on Thursday finally picked senior Justice of the Supreme Court (SC) Cholendra SJB Rana, the way is paved to appoint new Chief Justice (CJ) of Nepal.

Incumbent CJ Om Prakash Mishra is going to take compulsory retirement due to age limit on December 31. The CJ had to be picked one month before the post remains vacant. It is said that parliamentary hearing committee will expedite the process to finalize Rana’s name as new CJ.

Rana, born on December 13, 1957, was appointed an appellate court judge on 15 April 1996 and a Supreme Court justice on May 26, 2014. He had joined the judicial service in 1996.
