Writ Petition Against IGP Promotion

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 3, 2022: Challenging to the government’s decision to appoint Dhiraj Pratap Singh as Inspector General of Nepal Police (IGP), Additional Inspector General (AIG) Bishwa Raj Pokharel has filed a writ petition against at the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.


AIG Pokhrel has knocked the door of the SC arguing that seniority was breached while taking the decision to promote Singh as IGP. He has also demanded an interim order to halt the government’s decision and appoint him in the post of the IGP.

A cabinet meeting held on Sunday had appointed Inspector General of Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force, Singh and Raju Aryal respectively. The newly appointed Inspector Generals were presented the insignia of the Inspector General. Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey decorated them with the insignia amid ceremony organized at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.
