Guwahati, January 24 : At least one army personnel was injured and two army vehicles were damaged while an armed militant group ambushed on an army convoy at Namsai area along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on Wednesday morning.
According to the reports, suspected militants of CorCom and Paresh Baruah-led ULFA (I) had ambushed on the army convoy of 11 Grenadier Regiment at the area between Nongtau Khamti and Piyong under Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh along with Assam border.
Assam ADGP (SB) Pallav Bhattacharya said that, the militant group had grenade attack while the army convoy returned after conducting operation against militants from Ingnaou area.
“In the militants attack, two army vehicles were damaged and militants opened fire upon the security personnel and army personnel also retaliated,” the top Assam cop said.
Meanwhile, a top source said that, one army personnel was injured in the ambush.
Gun fight between the militants and army personnel is going on and top police, army officials had rushed to the remote jungle area.
At least 10 banned outfit groups including ULFA (I), NSCN (K), NDFB (S), PDCK, HNLC of the region called for boycott the Republic Day celebration and shut down on January 26.
