Kathmandu, Nepal: Political parties particularly the major two government allies Nepali Congress and the CPN Maoist Center have intensified discussions with the aim to make a univocal stand regarding the impeachment against suspended chief commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lok Man Singh Karki.
As speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has postponed the meeting of the legislative until Sunday with the aim to make an official stand of the political parties represent in the parliament, the Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Center have to make an official decision regarding the issue by Sunday regarding the impeachment against Karki.
The CPN UML, the second largest and the main opposition party, has already decided to stand in favor of impeachment against Karki.
The meeting of the legislative parliament was postponed until Sunday after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal had requested the Speaker Gharti for the same stating that political parties wanted to buy time to come up with a common view on the issue of impeachment.
157 members of the CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre had registered impeachment motion in the parliament on Wednesday. All the process related to the registered impeachment motion was scheduled to be tabled at Thursday’s meeting. With the postponement of the meeting of the parliament, all the process related to the impeachment have also been stalled until Sunday.
With the recent development over the issue of impeachment, Speaker Gharti has cancelled her one weeklong Geneva visit that was scheduled to start from Friday.
As per the process, Speaker has to determine the date and time for preliminary discussion. The impeachment recommendation committee, which was formed on Wednesday, is mandated to recommend to the full House.
