Guwahati, May 30 : Assam’s Dibrugarh district police had arrested two persons for possessing demonetised currencies in the Upper Assam district today.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, a team of Dibrugarh district had launched an operation at Gabharupathar area in Dibrugarh town and arrested two persons.

The police team had recovered old Rs 500, 1000 notes of Rs 42.32 lakh in possession from them.

The arrested persons were identified as Gautam Sahani and Shrishti Hazarika.

During the preliminary investigation, it is revealed that, the arrested persons had tried to change the old currencies with new currency notes in Arunachal Pradesh with the help of a racket.

Police has started investigation into the matter and interrogated them to collect more information.
