Kathmandu, Nepal: Neighboring China has made clear that President Xi Jinping’s purported Nepal visit has not been cancelled. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has on Monday made clear to this effect.
During a regular press conference in Beijing on Monday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Hua Chunying, told the reporters that China and Nepal were communicating through diplomatic channels for the high-level visit. However, she did not mention even the tentative timeframe of the high-level visit.
There was a speculation that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s purported Nepal visit has been canceled due to the lack of preparedness on the Nepali side. Some media had made headlines referring to the diplomatic sources.
Following the speculations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Krishna Bahadur Mahara was sent to Tibet of China on Saturday with the aim to convince the Chinese officials to guarantee the Chinese President’s Nepal visit.
With the assurance from the Chinese side, it is expected that Chinese president Xi would visit Nepal in October, just before or after the BRICS Summit that is going to be held in India.
