Guwahati, Sep 21 : At least six people including a minor boy was died in electrocution in central Assam’s Nagaon district on Friday morning.
The incident took place at Khatualgaon village under Juria police station when some locals went to a pond for fishing and bathing.
When the people were busy in fishing and bathing, a 11,000-Volt live electrical wire snapped from a nearby electric post and fell in the pond.
When some locals noticed the incident, they immediately cut off the electricity and engaged in rescue operation.
Six people were died on spot and five others injured after coming in contact with the live electric wire.
Following the incident, angry villagers had vandalised a local electricity office.
The deceased persons were identified as Inamul Haque, Rafikul Islam, Moinul Haque, Habibur Rehman, Anisur Rehman and Anzarul Islam.
The injured persons have been rushed to Nagaon civil hospital.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and directed the state Power minister Tapan Kumar Gogoi to take stock the situation.
“After offering morning namaz, I heard some sounds and immediately rushed to area. When I noticed that, a live electrical wire fell in the pond, immediately informed some local people,” a local people said.
