Kathmandu, Nepal, February 7, 2023: Indian National Monty Desai has been appointed as head coach of the national men's cricket team on Monday.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has said that Desai has been appointed after the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council endorsed the decision of the CAN to appoint him in the post.
Desai has replaced fellow Indian Manoj Prabhakar, who had resigned as the head coach citing the private reason.
With the appointment, Desai has got chance to be involved with the Nepali cricket team for three times. Earlier, he had served as the batting consultant of the Nepali U-19 team in 2017.
Before that, he had also worked for the national cricket team during the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers.
As many as 24 candidates had applied following a call for application by the CAN for the post of the national coach of Nepali national cricket team.
Meanwhile, Pakistani wicket keeper and batsman Mohammad Rizwan has met with Nepali national cricketers on Monday. He arrived in Nepal on Sunday evening and met the players of the national cricket team including Sandeep Lamichhane.
