Kathmandu, Nepal, October 31, 2025:  Nepal suffered a five-wicket defeat against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series in Dubai on Thursday, despite a spectacular century from captain Rohit Paudel.

This loss marks Nepal's second straight defeat in the series, following their heavy loss to the USA. Nepal has now lost 11 of their 18 matches in the tournament, while the host UAE registered their fourth win.

Paudel Heroic in Shaky Innings

Electing to bat first, Nepal was bundled out for 233 runs in their full 50 overs. Skipper Paudel was the cornerstone of the innings, registering a gritty knock of 109 runs off 130 balls. This marked his second One Day International (ODI) century.

However, a lack of support meant Nepal struggled to build momentum. The top order failed early, and though Paudel stitched a 70-run partnership with Aarif Sheikh (27) and a 54-run stand with Dipendra Singh Airee (23), wickets fell regularly. Debutant UAE bowler Zahid Ali was the standout, claiming impressive figures of 4/41.

UAE Chase Down Target Comfortably

Chasing 234, the UAE secured the win comfortably, finishing at 237/5 in 43.3 overs.

Opener Aryansh Sharma was the star for the UAE, falling just short of a maiden century with a brilliant 98 off 98 balls. He and Alishan Sharafu (45) put up a strong 63-run opening stand, setting the foundation for the chase.

Nepal's bowlers struggled to break through. Sandeep Lamichhane (2/34) was the most effective, picking up two wickets, including the crucial one of Aryansh Sharma.

Aryansh Sharma was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance. Nepal will be looking to bounce back in their next fixture, where they face the table-toppers USA on Saturday.
