Kathmandu, Nepal, January 2, 2023: Tourists Business Sector Remains Satisfactory In 2022 With Arrival of 614,148 Tourists
Tourism business sector remained satisfactory in 2022. According to the statistics of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 614,148 tourists have entered in Nepal in 2022 via air route only.
Of the total tourists arrived in Nepal during the one year period, largest numbers were from neighboring India after United States of America (USA). As the tourists arrival from land route is not included in the statistic, it is believed that about 20 percent tourists would be included in the above mentioned statistics.
The NTB has stated that 209,105 tourists entered in Nepal from India alone. The tourists arrival from India covers about 35 percent of the total number of tourists arrived in Nepal.
After India, 77,000 tourists have entered in Nepal in 2022 from the USA, which are 14 in percent. After the US, the United Kingdom (UK), Australia and Bangladesh have ranked in third, fourth and fifth, respectively. According to the statistics, 44,700 tourists arrived from the UK, 26,800 from Australia, and 25,300 tourists from Bangladesh.
The highest number of tourists arrived in the month of October followed by November and December. According to the statistics, 88,582 tourists visited Nepal in the month of October while 72,653 and 67,932 tourists visited in November and December respectively. In the beginning month of 2022, January, only 16,975 tourists had visited Nepal followed by 19,766 tourists in the month of February.
Nepal’s tourism sector had badly hampered due to the spreading threat of the COVID-19 in the year of 2020 and 2021. Only 42,776 tourists had visited Nepal in 2020.
