Guwahati: The member-journalists of Guwahati Press Club on 25 May paid heartfelt tributes to journalist Mithu Choudhury, who died on 19 May 2017 after suffering from various ailments. Organized by Journalists' Forum Assam, the memorial meeting also observed one minute silence as a mark of respects to the departed soul.
Choudhury, 53, breathed his last on Friday afternoon at his rented residence in Guwahati and his cremation was done in the same evening. Hailed from Silchar, the soft spoken scribe left behind his wife, only son and a host of relative & well wishers. Earlier the JFA urged Assam chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal to sanction some financial helps to the bereaved family.
An honorable member of the press club, Choudhury started his journalism career two decades back and lately was associated with popular Bengali daily 'Dainik Jugashankha' for many years. For some time he also worked for 'Sakal Bela'. Lately used to contribute for various news portals and his focus area was insurgency in northeast India.
The speakers in the meeting described Choudhury as an honest and dedicated journalist. They also appreciated Choudhury's commitment to the medium who maintained his identity as a working journalist till his untimely demise. The participants also contributed individual financial assistances to Choudhury's family.
The meeting was addressed by senior journalists Rupam Barua, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria, DN Singh, Prasanta Majumder, Dilip Sarma, Peter Alex, Arindam Roy, Dixit Sarma, Sabyasachi Sarma along with Beauty Barman, Azlina Khanam, Sanjay Roy, Sanjoy Das, Bhaskarjyoti Das, Diganta Das, Dhiraj Deka etc.
