Kathmandu, Nepal, August 10, 2021: Standing Committee meeting of CPN-UML has passed a statute amendment proposal barring the party leaders to set up separate panels for the leadership selection from the upcoming general convention.
Though the proposal is yet to be endorsed from the Central Committee, the new provision is taken as a strategy to sideline the dissident faction led by party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhala Nath Khanal.
The dissident faction that boycotted the meeting has termed that the decision would have intended to close the chapter of ongoing consensus attempts.
As the Oli led faction has moved unilaterally with several decisions targeted to the upcoming general convention, dissident faction has also decided to intensify the process of forming parallel committees form separate committees from center to local level.
The dissident faction has made the decision with the aim to ease the process to split the party to register a new one or to capture the party’s leadership through the upcoming general convention.
The meeting held at Tulsidas Memorial Academy at Chasal at Lalitpur on Monday also decided not to wait the dissident faction to take decision to move forward the party’s activities.
