Kathmandu, Nepal, April 19, 2022: A group of US Democratic lawmakers, including four senators and a House member will be arriving in Kathmandu on Friday.

It is said that the US lawmakers are arriving in Nepal as part of their nine-day trip to Poland, Germany, India, the United Arab Emirates and Nepal to rally support for Ukraine. Nepal has voted in favor of Ukraine in several UN platforms in New York and Geneva.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has confirmed the visit of the US lawmakers in Nepal sans mentioning about the purpose of the visit. We have received a communication that a US delegation is visiting Nepal soon, MoFA spokesperson Sewa Lamsal said.

Though the detail schedule of the visiting US lawmakers is yet to revel, it is said that the US lawmakers would meet with various leaders including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba during their stay in Nepal.

As the visit comes just after Nepal ratified the $500 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Nepal Compact through the parliament it is taken importantly from different sectors.

Officials at the MoFA seems optimistic that the visit of the US lawmakers would help to prepare ground for some high-level exchanges between Nepal and the US as later this year as both countries are marking 75 years of establishment of diplomatic ties.
