Guwahati: Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Football Tournamant 2017 organised by the Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) concluded with an enthralling match between local lads and the defending champion Naga FC, Kohima and debutant entrants Vanguard FC from Wokha district VANGUARD, FC trounced the defending champion Naga FC in a hard fought match to lift the 3rd Capt N Kenguruse, MVC Memorial Trophy.
 
Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, AVSM,SM,VSM, GOC 3 Corps was the Chief Guest for the Closing ceremony which was also graced by the presence of proud parents & family members of Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), Maj Gen Sanjay Gupta, Inspector General Assam Rifles(North) ,other civil and Assam Rifles dignitaries.
 
Speaking at the occasion GOC 3 Corps said that Captain Kenguruse Football Tournament is aimed at fusing the indomitable Naga spirit and the passion of Naga youth for football, so that young sporting talent of the state can get an avenue to rise and shine as professional footballers. 
 
He also appreciated the efforts of the Assam Rifles for organizing the football tourney to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the brave martyr and to inspire the youth to carry forward his legacy and encourage the young football talent in the state.
 
Neisielie Kenguruse, father of the brave martyr on an emotional note thanked the Assam rifles, all the players, management and other officials for the conduct of the tournament and reminisce his son.
 
Other highlights of the closing ceremony were the Drum and Pipe band display by 9 Assam Rifles band, enchanting Nagameses songs by Mengu Suokhrie, cultural dance and the cheerful crowd of Kohima who created a scintillating sporting atmosphere. 
 
The winners took home prizes worth Rs 1,70,000 along with the Champion's trophy while runners up got a trophy and awards worth Rs 80,000. 
 
In the individual categories Yhunshalo, Vanguard FC got the Golden Boot Award and Rs 5000, Kevikielie Punyu was awarded the Best Custodian & Rs 5000, Khwetelhi Thopi, Naga FC was named the Player of the tournament and awarded Rs 5000 and Medozevi Punyu was named the Best official and awarded with Rs 5000.
