Ashok Silwal, goodwill ambassador of Langtang, has unveiled his book ‘Everest’ in Langtang. Subtitled ‘An Unfinished Story’, Silwal’s Everest was publicly released by Dinndu Jangwa, chairperson of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-4 (Langtang), along with local residents, in Kyanjin, the last village of the Langtang region located at nearly 4,000 meters above sea level.
'This is a journey of nature and love. Though it’s a journey to Everest- the peak of the world- it is also a journey toward the depths,' Silwal said. 'It’s not just a travel memoir; it’s a dialogue between Everest and my soul- Jennifer in my heart and Julie on the map. It also documents the emotions of Himalayan locals like the porter brother and the toothless old man, as well as many travelers from around the world who have come to Everest.'
Everest is Silwal’s fifth book. His previous works include Kalam- a critical look at journalism; Lekhak Duniya- an exploration of the literary world; Sri Lanka Smriti- a collection of travel experiences; and Appa Deepo Bhavah- a spiritually centered book on Mount Kailash.
Silwal, a tour-trekking guide, tourism trainer and freelance journalist, is also a documentary filmmaker.
