Guwahati : A local court in Assam on Tuesday had convicted the main accused of the horrific crime of rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in central Assam’s Nagaon district.
The horrific incident took place at Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon under Batadraba police station in the central Assam district on March 23 last, where the class-5 girl student was gang raped and then set on fire.
The main accused, Zakir Hussain and two others had committed the crime at the victim’s house when she was alone after returning from school.
The minor girl was gang raped and then the accused persons splashed kerosene on her body and bunt her to death.
The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital and admitted with 90 percent burn injury, injuries while she was shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
Before succumbing to injuries, she had given a dying declaration to police identifying the three criminals.
Later, Nagaon police had arrested main accused Zakir Hussain, another juvenile and thirs was absconding.
Following the incident, police had filed chargesheet before the court within a month and Zakir Hussain and the others were charged with rape and murder.
On Tuesday, the Session court of Nagaon district had pronounced the verdict convictingZakir Hussain.
The court acquitted the others in the case for lack of proper evidence.
The quantum of punishment will be announced on September 7.
