Guwahati : In a major embarrassment to the Assam health department, the family members of a pregnant woman have been forced to carry her in a hand cart and boat to reach hospital in Assam's Barpeta district.
The incident took place at Majorchar area in Barpeta district, where a pregnant woman was carried in a hand cart and boat by her family members to reach hospital due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.
According to the reports, when the woman – a resident of Majorchar village felt severe labour pain, the family members had carried her in a hand cart to reach Nagarbera Block Primary Health Centre due to lack of ambulance service and proper road connectivity.
The family members had also used a country made boat to cross the Brahmaputra river to reach the government-run hospital.
After travelling about 2 hours in the hand cart, the family members of the woman had managed a country made boat to carry her to reach the hospital.
The family members of the woman alleged that, there is no ambulance service available in the area due to dilapidated condition of roads.
"I am coming from Majorchar area. It is a delivery case and carrying the woman to reach Nagarbera hospital. We are facing lot of problems here," a family member of the woman said.
