Mumbai, India, June 28 (AP): A chartered plane crashed on Thursday in a busy area of Mumbai, the country’s financial and entertainment capital, police said. News reports said five people were feared dead.
Police said it was not immediately known how many people were on board the aircraft. It crashed near a multistorey building under construction, they said.
ABP News said that at least five people were killed when the chartered plane crashed in the thickly populated suburb of Ghatkopar in north-east Mumbai.
The television news channel named the dead as pilot Maria Kuber, co-pilot Pradeep Rajput, and technicians Manish Pandey and Surabhi.
The pilot seemed to have tried to land near a building under construction and not near the highly-populated localities. The pilot died in the crash.
Television images showed parts of the wreckage burning on the ground. Police and fire engines were at the crash site.
ABP News said the black box or flight recorder had benn recovered from the crash site.
