Kathmandu, Nepal — October 10, 2025: The recent first-phase ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has raised hopes for the safe release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was abducted during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Although Joshi’s current condition remains unconfirmed, it is believed that he is still alive. According to reports, 26 of the 48 hostages taken during the attack have been confirmed dead. Joshi’s whereabouts and health status remain uncertain.
Bipin Joshi, 24, was studying water and agricultural sciences at Kibbutz Alumim in southern Israel when he was taken hostage by Hamas militants during the surprise assault.
On September 21, 2025, Hamas released a farewell photograph of Joshi, which suggested that he was alive at that time. Additionally, a video recovered by the Israeli military in 2023 had shown Joshi in captivity, further supporting claims that he survived the initial stages of his abduction.
Officials and family members remain hopeful that the ceasefire agreement will pave the way for Joshi’s safe return.
