Kathmandu, Nepal: Nain Singh Mahar has been elected as the President of Nepal Students Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress.
Mahar, who was backed by the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba and influential youth leader Gagan Thapa, has been elected as the NSU president defeating his closest rival Manoj Mani Acharya.
Acharya was backed by the Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel. Altogether, seven candidates were vying in the post of president.
Vote counting for other post is underway at the Nepali Congress’s central office Sanepa. It is likely that Mahar led panel would be victorious in almost all posts. Kundan Kafle is the General Secretary from the Mahar led panel.
