KATHMANDU — The Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) has arrived in Nepal for a three-day official visit. During his stay, the senior U.S. Army general is scheduled to hold a courtesy meeting with the Chief of Army Staff of the Nepali Army, General Ashok Raj Sigdel.
According to Nepali Army sources, discussions are expected to focus on bilateral military cooperation, joint training exchanges, disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and peacekeeping collaboration. Nepal and the United States have maintained longstanding military ties, characterized by regular training and capacity-building engagements.
As the largest geographic combatant command of the United States, USINDOPACOM oversees security partnerships across dozens of countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Because Nepal falls within this theater, the visit of the top U.S. military commander is considered highly significant.
Talks are also expected to cover regional security dynamics, strategic interests, and ways to further strengthen Nepal–U.S. defense relations. Additionally, the discussions may include an appreciation of the Nepali Army’s vital role in United Nations peacekeeping missions and explore possibilities for expanding cooperation in that field.
The visit is being viewed as an important step in reinforcing bilateral relations and defense diplomacy. The Nepali Army has stated that a detailed schedule of the visit will be made public shortly.
