Nepali Congress and UML agreed upon to form a coalition government

Kathmandu, Nepal, July 2, 2024: The Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, the largest and second largest parties respectively in the parliament have agreed upon to form a coalition government. 

In a significant political development, the two parties have made an understanding to run the coalition government for the remaining term of the parliament. In the meeting held between the senior leaders of both the parties on Monday evening, both the parties have signed in the power-sharing deal.

As per the agreement, the UML Chairman KP Oli will lead the government for at least two years while Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba will lead the government during the remaining term of the parliament.  

The UML will take nine ministries including the finance while Nepali Congress will take 10 ministries including the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

Likewise, the UML will lead provincial governments in Koshi, Lumbini and Karnali provinces while the NC will lead the provincial governments of Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim provinces. 

Both the parties have also agreed upon to allow the Madhas based parties to lead the government of Madhes provinces.
