Pokhara, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC), the Apex Court of the country, has ordered the government to build up the shrinking Phewa Lake within six months.
Publishing the full text of the verdict of a writ petition filed by advocate Khagendra Subedi on Thursday, the SC has made such an order to the government and other concerned government agencies.
The order was made from a division bench of justices Om Prakash Mishra and Sapana Pradhan Malla to annul illegal registration of Phewa Lake land as per the report of Bishwa Prakash Lamichhane-led commission's report.
The area of the Fewa Lake has continuously been encroaching by private landowners particularly the hotels and restaurant built in the bank of the lake. It is said that the lake's actual size has decreased by fifty percent during two decades.
