KATHMANDU, Nepal, December 13, 2025 — The 11th General Convention of the Nepal Communist Party (UML), which was the second-largest party in the dissolved House of Representatives (HoR), officially kicked off today in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur. The convention is being held to elect the party’s new leadership for the upcoming term.

Party Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the convention during a grand function later today.

According to the party, over 2,000 delegates, including those elected from the party’s organizational tiers, have already arrived in Kathmandu to participate.

The general convention will proceed with electing the new leadership, amidst an anticipated contest between Chairman Oli and Senior Vice Chairman Ishwar Pokhrel.

As the party already concluded its separate policy convention in the first week of September, no policy discussions are formally scheduled during this gathering, which is primarily focused on leadership change.

However, some dissident leaders aligned with Pokhrel have reportedly demanded that policy discussions be included in the convention's agenda.
