Guwahati : Over 11.97 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha bye election in Nagaland to be held on May 28.

The by-election for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland was necessitated after NDPP leader and present Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had resigned as a Lok Sabha member on February 16 last.

The People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) led by Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has fielded former minister Tokheho Yepthomi as the candidate while NPF fielded C Apok Jamir.

Altogether, 11, 97, 436 voters who will decide the fate of two candidates and out of the total voters, male voters constitute 6,07, 589 and female voters constitute 5, 89, 847.

Out of 2196 polling stations, 211 polling stations have been categorized as vulnerable and 260 as critical.

According to the Nagaland state election officials, about 500 polling stations will be covered with either web casting or a videography fixed camera.

Around 20,000 polling personnel have been deployed to conduct the polls peacefully.
