Kathmandu, Nepal: The Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, has on Wednesday stayed the provision made in the annual budget to dole out Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified Maoist combatants.

Responding to the writ, filed against the provision, a single bench of Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli made the order the government not to implement the budget provision. The victims family of the Maoist insurgents and the Nepali Congress leaders had moved to the Court challenging the budget provision.

The erstwhile CPN UML chairman KP Sharma Oli led government had provisioned in the annual budget to dole out Rs 200,000 each to the disqualified Maoist combatants.  The point number 19 of the budget has provisioned to this effect.

Interestingly, the legislative parliament has already approved the budget provision.

With the order, the SC has also summoned both the plaintiffs and the defendants for August 31.
