Kathmandu, Nepal, March 7, 2021: The Supreme Court SC), the apex court of the country, has on Sunday given the Nepal Communist Party (NCP)’s name to the Rishi Kattel.
A joint bench of SC justices Kumar Regmi and Bam Kumar Shrestha has passed the verdict to this effect scrapping the NCP registered in the name of KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
As Kattel had already registered the NCP at the Election Commission (EC), Oli and Dahal had registered the party with same name. The issued had landed at the SC after Kattel filed a case at the SC demanding the scrap of NCP registered in the name of Oli and Dahal.
The verdict of the SC has become a severe blow to both the factions of the Oli and Dahal-led NCP because the verdict has come at the time when both factions- one led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the other by Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal- have been claiming the legitimacy of the party. Both the factions had already knocked the door of claiming legitimacy of the party.
With the verdict erstwhile CPN UML and the CPN Maoist Center have revived.
