Guwahati : The Japanese Encephalitis death toll in Assam since the beginning of this year rose to 124 with four more casualties being reported in past 24 hours.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM), a total of 124 deaths and 544 positive cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been reported till Friday in the state.

32 out of 33 districts of Assam are now affected by the disease and only Kokrajhar district is out of its influence.

In past 24 hours, one each people died from Japanese Encephalitis in Chirang, Barpeta, Dima Hasao and Sivasagar district.

Minister of Health & Family welfare (State) Pijush Hazarika said that, the state government has able to control it day to day and it will control totally in next seven days.

"Around 120 people have died and it decreasing gradually. I think it will totally control in next seven days. Till September 30, we have cancelled all transfer, posting, leaves. We are doing very war footing way. We have issued order of totally free treatment for the Japanese Encephalitis patients," Pijush Hazarika said.
