Guwahati : To provide housing loan and educational loan at subsidised interest rates to the employees of the state government, a MoU was signed on between the Assam government and State Bank of India on Wednesday.
The MoU was signed by Om Prakash Mishra, General Manager, State Bank of India, NE Circle on behalf of State Bank of India and Devajyoti Hazarika, Additional Secretary, Finance, on behalf of Assam government in the presence of state finance and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Secretary V K Pipersenia, PVSLN Murty, Chief General Manager, State Bank of India, Local Head Office Guwahati, V K Pyarelal, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary (Finance), Dr Ravi Kota, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary (Finance) and Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay.
The historic and unique landmark MoU ceremony commenced in the evening with lighting of lamp by the distinguished guests at NEDFi House, Dispur.
The MoU has been signed provide loans for Housing & Higher Education Loan to the State Government Employees at very nominal rate of interest.
Government will provide interest subsidy at the rate of 3.50% for housing loan and at suitable rate to make education loan at 4%.
Accordingly, the State government employees will get substantial benefit in terms of interest rates and reduced EMI. There are provisions for collateral free loan, Zero Margin, Zero Processing Fee with longer repayment tenure.
Murty stated that, about the reach out of SBI across the state serving an average of 7 lakh people per day and wide spread network and infrastructure of the bank to meet the demands of State government employees within the short time.
He also termed the scheme basically for the employee lower income group but applicable to all the employees of State government who has minimum age of 21 years and residual service of 5 years. Maximum limit of Housing Loan (named APON GHAR) is Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for High education loan (named BIDYA LAXMI). Various Distinguished guests from Govt and Bank have expressed their valuable views in this regards.
Assam finance minister termed this event as an historic event as it is the only State governemnt to sign such MoU for the benefit of its employees.
'The period of post demonetisation and Assam was become the Model State towards normalcy,â€Â the Assam minister said.
He praised SBI and its teams efforts in several occasions for it's responsible and dedicated participation towards the implementation of normalcy during crisis.
The Assam minister also praised the SBI's keen interest towards this new schemes (Housing loan APON GHAR & High Education Loan BIDYALAXMI.
Himanta Biswa Sarma requests SBI and its employees to disburse at least 10000 such loans by the month of May 2017.
He also request media houses to give due publicity even to national so as to name schemes as Assam schemes. One need not to visit branches, can submit their loan request to respective DDO (Drawing and Disbursing Officer) only.
Besides all SBI also took an opportunity to open its three new branches by the good hand of Assam finance minister through Video Conferences.
The three new SBI branches opened are as Jagun (Tinsukia), Bordubi (Tinsukia) and Paltan Bazar (Dibrugarh).
