Guwahati, September 22 : Assam's student organization Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) asked the state and central governments to stop the move to amend the Indian Citizenship Act. *
In a statement on Thursday AJYCP President Biraj Kumar Talukdar threatened of an intensified Assam Agitation to resist the move.
'A slew of recent moves in Delhi beyond doubt has proved that the BJP-led Government at the Centre has been least bothered on the Bangladeshi immigrant issue,'Â Talukdar said.
'Instead the Narendra Modi Government is keen to have a huge Hindu Bangladeshi vote bank to ensure a better political career of the BJP leaders,'Â the student leader said.
AJYCP further appealed to the amendment panel members not to clear it which could cripple socio- economic and political spheres of Assam.
'BJP came to power both in Delhi and Dispur promising a Bangladeshi-free Assam. But of late the real face of the saffron party has been exposed. In a bid to institutionalize the move the Narendra Modi government has stepped up efforts even to amend the Indian Citizenship Act which we oppose and will vehemently do so. We have seen that these are no less notorious than what Indira Gandhi did to ensure power,'Â Talukdar said.
The Assam student leader said that, we beg to appeal to the amendment panel members not to clear it which could cripple socio- economic and political spheres of Assam.
The student organisation also warns the political leaders of Assam not to land in the trap of the Delhities which is a huge threat to Assam and the Assamese.
