Guwahati : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday fielded Dr Ranoj Pegu from the Assam's Dhemaji assembly constituency where the by-election is necessitated after Pradan Baruah, the former legislator of the constituency resigned and elected as the MP in last by-poll in Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency.
The by-poll in Dhemaji assembly constituency will be held on April 9.
The BJP Central Election Committee had announced its candidate in the Dhemaji by-election.
Ranoj Pegu, head of Gana Shakti and a popular leader among the mishing tribes recently joined BJP.
Earlier, Congress announced Babul Sonowal as the party candidate for the by-poll in the constituency.
