NEA Proposes to CEA to Export Additional 111 MW Electricity

Kathmandu, Nepal, August 23, 2022: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the state owned hydro electricity body of Nepal, has proposed the neighboring India to sell an additional 111 MW of surplus electricity.


The NEA has said that a proposal has already been sent to the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of India for the sale of the additional electricity produced through four hydropower plants- Mistrikhola, Likhukhola, Solukhola and Chilime hycropower.

It is said that the NEA would be able to sell additional 111 MW surplus electricity once the CEA gives permission to the NEA. Nepal has been exporting 364 MW electricity to India now since last one year.

The NEA has traded surplus power worth Rs 1.84 billion in the first month mid-July to mid-August of the current fiscal year 2022-23 at competitive rate in the Indian energy market.

As the NEA sold 242.69 million units of surplus energy during the review period, Nepal become success to make income Rs 59.3 million. Nepal had started to sell the surplus energy from last year.
