Guwahati, December 22 : Income Tax (IT) department on Thursday had seized at least Rs 2.35 crore in new currency denominations from a businessman establishments in Assam's Nagaon district.
 
It is one of the biggest cash seizure in Assam after nationwide demonetization drive by IT department.
 
A top IT official said that, based on sources information a team of IT department had raided at the Hotel Seashine and Mahim store owned by Amylya Das at Borbazar area mid of Nagaon town in the middle Assam district.
 
During the search operation, around Rs 2.34 crore in new denomination of Rs 2000 and Rs 1 lakh of new Rs 500 notes were recovered by IT sleuths.
 
We have also recovered huge denominations of Rs 100 from the establishments of the businessman,â€Â the IT official said. 
 
The IT department had apprehended Tapan Das, son of the businessman and started interrogation to collect more information about the seizure cash.
 
The two businessmen trade in wholesale market of chewing tobacco, stationery goods in middle Assam.
 
Last week, the IT and Assam police had recovered at around Rs 1.54 crore in new notes from a trader in Guwahati.
