Kathmandu, Nepal, January 23, 2022: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has proposed the names of party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and former General secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula as presidential candidate.
The Nepali Congress has initiated discussions in and outside of the party to finalize the names of the candidate for the President. It is said that the Nepali Congress will discuss with the parties, particularly the Maoist Center, to support the
Party President Deuba took the names of senior leader Poudel and leader Sitaula as candidates for the President in an office bearer’s meeting on Monday, a leader said preferring anonymity that the meeting however, has not taken any formal decision.
Leader Sitaula has shown interests to be president claiming that the Maoist Center, particularly its chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal would support to him.
Earlier, Poudel was seen as an aspirant for the post. Party President Deuba has forwarded Sitaula as an alternative candidate for the presidential candidate believing the necessity of alternative candidate to seek consensus.
