Guwahati, August 2 : Tension gripped in many parts of Assam after a popular minority student leader of lower Assam and president of All Bodo Minority Students Union (ABMSU) Lafikul Islam Ahmed gunned down by miscreants in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday evening. 
 
According to the reports, two motorcycle borne unidentified assailants opened fire from an AK-47 rifle at Lafikul at a shop in Titaguri market in Kokrajhar district, while he had gone to buy tiles. 
 
Seriously injured Lafikul was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. 
 
In the firing incident, the shopkeeper also injured and admitted at a hospital. 
 
Police found three empty AK-47 cartridges from the spot. 
 
Following the incident, members and supporters of ABMSU blockade roads by burning tyres and shouted slogans against the government and demanded a high level probe into the incident in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Guwahati and other parts of the state. 
 
Meanwhile, ABMSU called an indefinite bandh in protest against the killing and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. 
 
On the other hand, Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay had rushed to Kokrajhar following directive by the Assam Chief Minister and took part in a high level meeting with top police officials of the lower Assam districts. 
 
 
Assam DGP Sahay said that, the investigation is going on to nab the 
culprits and he had already asked an IGP to rush the area to maintain peace 
and order. 
 
"A massive hunt has been launched to nab the culprits," the Assam DGP said. 
 
Condemning the incident Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had also asked Special DG Kula Saikia to rush to Kokrajhar and review the prevailing situation. 
 
On the other hand, Assam government has announced an Ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakh to the victim family. 
 
On the other hand, Congress's Assam unit president Ripun Bora and opposition leader Debabrata Saikia demanded a high level probe into the incident.
