Kathmandu, Nepal: CPN Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Prachanda, has been elected as the 39th Prime Minister of the country with clear majority in the Legislature-Parliament on Wednesday.
 
The only Prime Ministerial candidate Dahal secured 363 votes out of 573 votes cast in the Prime Ministerial race. According to the Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, 210 lawmakers have voted against Dahal. The lawmakers representing to the CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal had voted against Dahal.
 
Dahal was backed by 16 political parties including the Nepali Congress (NC), the oldest democratic party of the country, which is also the largest party in the parliament. The fringe parties and the independent lawmakers have also backed Dahal. 
 
It is the second inning to the CPN Maoist Center Chairman Dahal as the Prime Minister of the country.  He is the only communist leader to be elected Prime Minister twice in the Nepal’s history.  Dahal had made a history by becoming Prime Minister for the first time in August 2008.
