Kathmandu, Nepal, August 2, 2023: The Nepal police have arrested lawyer Bhagwati Pandey 'Sheetal' on Wednesday on the charge of making controversial statement.
Lawyer Pandey was dragged into controversy due to her statement in a television interview that Muslim, Magar and Tamang communities marry brothers and sisters.
Kumarsingh Ghising of Nepal Tamang Ghedung and Gyanendra Pun of Nepal Magar Association had lodged a complaint demanding action for her alleged controversial statement. The District Court of Kathmandu had issued an arrest warrant against her on Friday.
According to the police, an investigation is underway against lawyer Pandey under the crime of caste discrimination and untouchability. Now Magar and Tamang communities are protesting against the statement of lawyer Bhagwati Panda.
