Bharatpur, Nepal: Re-elections has begun at Ward Number 19 of Bharatpur Metropolitan City from 7.00 am on Friday. People are lining up to cast their votes in enthusiastic manner.
The local administration has heavily mobilized the security personnel to avert the untoward incidents. It is said that about eight hundred security personnel from the Nepal Police and the Armed Police force have been mobilized to mention the security in the polling stations.
Following the instruction of the Election Commission (EC) to hold the re-poll at the ward number 19 of the metropolitan city, the office of the chief election officer had on Tuesday announced the re-election for Friday. The way was cleared to hold the re-elections at the ward after the Supreme Court had on Sunday upheld the EC’s decision to conduct re-election in the ward.
As the CPN Maoist Centre’s representatives on May 28 allegedly tore up 90 ballot papers during the vote count, the EC on June 3, had decided re-election. As mayoral candidate Renu Dahal, the daughter of the CPN Maoist Centre’s chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was following the CPN-UML’s mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali, the issue was made controversial linking to the political parties.
