Rajbiraj, Saptari, Nepal: Saptari district particularly the Rajbiraj, district headquarter of the district remained tense after hundreds United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have staged protests program from early morning on Monday from various parts of the districts with the aim to foil the CPN-UML’s mass assembly scheduled there as part of its Mechi-Mahakali Campaign.
 
Notwithstanding the huge presence of security personnel, the protesters have staged rallies with sticks. As protesters are heading towards the Gajendra Narayan Singh Industrial Estate, where the UML has scheduled a mass gathering today, there is high possibility of clash as the UML cadres are also preparing for the mass assembly. 
 
It is said that the UML’s senior leaders including party chairman KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to arrive there in the afternoon to address the program. As security personnel arrested some UDMF cadres during the rallies on Monday morning, the protesters have staged their protest aggressively. 
 
The two sides, which have been at opposite poles right since the constitution drafting process, have now reached the stage of physical confrontation thanks to the agitating UDMF that has announced protest program targeting to thwart the UML’s 15-day long Mechi-Mahakali campaign launched on the name of helping to implement the new constitution and promote national unity.
 
The normal life of the district is badly crippled from the early morning on Monday. No vehicles are plying on the road. Market places, industries and the educational institutions are also shut down due to the fear of potential clash between the two sides.
