Kathmandu, Nepal, April 10, 2021: Bipul Pokhrel led joint panel has been elected with overwhelming majorities in the election of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) on Saturday.
Nirmala Sharma, the close constantan of Pokhrel, who was a candidate of the progressive-inclusive alliance and Press Chautari Nepal, the Prime Minister KP Oli led faction of the ruling CPN UML, Press Forum Nepal and others suffered a ‘shocking’ defeat with a margin of 3,027 votes.
Newly elected JNJ chairman Pokhrel has garnered 6942 votes while Sharma garnered just 3,915 votes. Likewise, another contestant Gajendra Singh Budhathoki, who had fielded his candidacy ‘to get rid the FNJ from the party politics,’ has garnered just 491 votes.
Almost all the posts have been clinched by the Pokhrel-led alliance including the vice-president (Ramesh Bista) and general secretary (Roshan Puri).
