Kathmandu, Nepal, June 22, 2021:The Nepali Congress (NC) has witnessed election fever in view of the 14th general convention that is scheduled for coming September 1 to 4 in Kathmandu. As many have wanted a dynamic leadership in the grand old democratic party of the country so as to regain its lost strength, the scheduled convention of the NC is taken importantly form different sectors.

Various second rung leaders including incumbent president Sher Bahadur Deuba and senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel have shown interests to contest in the elections to lead the party. As of now, incumbent president Deuba, vice president Bimalendra Nidhi and Central Committee member Dr. Shekhar Koirala have formally announced their candidacy for the post of party President. 

Likewise, senior leader Poudel, General Secretary Dr. Shasanka Koirala, former General Secretary duo Krisna Sitaula, Prakash Man Singh and Sujata Koirala have also shown interests to vie in the election for the party president even though they have yet to announce their candidacy.     

The wider interests among the leaders to vie in the post of party president would likely to change existing equation of the party. As president Deuba and vice President Nidhi announced their candidacy, the long being prevailed equation of the camp has felt a jolt triggering a suspicions to change the equation in the party.  

Likewise, several leaders from the Poudel led camp have shown interests to vie in the post of party president leaving a clear a sign that they would not forward Poudel as a sole candidate to contest in the post against the possible strong candidate Deuba.  

Deuba, Nidhi and Shekhar Koirala have already started consultations with party leaders to seek support to contest in the post of party president. 

Vice president Nidhi, who had already told party President Deuba that he was keen to contest the post of president in the coming convention, consulted with General Secretary Shashank Koirala and former General Secretary Singh at his residence on Monday.

The Nepali Congress has already made public election schedule from ward level to center. As per the schedule, the ward level convention is scheduled for July 27,  municipal level convention on July 31, province constituency committee convention is scheduled for August 4, House of Representatives (HoR) constituency committee convention scheduled for August 7 and district convention for on August 10. 

The active members of the conventions will take part in the ward level convention to pick new leadership of the party including the representatives for the convention called as Mahasamiti Sadasya. 

The NC has distributed about 800,000 active members of the Nepali Congress (NC).  It is said that of them, 380,000 are old active members while 420,000 are new members.
