Kathmandu, Nepal, May 22, 2021: The opposition parties- the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), the Madhav Nepal-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML, the Upendra Yadav-led faction of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Rastriya Janamorcha have protested the government’s move to dissolve the parliament and declaration of snap polls.  

Issuing a joint statement, the opposition parties have also threatened to protest the move from different levels. The move taken by the government to dissolve the parliament is unconstitutional, undemocratic, autocratic and regressive, states the statement.

The president has assaulted the constitution and democracy in partnership with the prime minister and the government is hell bent to prolong the autocratic rule by taking into confidence the president, states the statement adding that the President should have appointed the NC President Deuba as Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution. 

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML leader Nepal, JSP Chairman Yadav and Janamorcha Vice-chair Durga Poudel have signed in the joint statement.
