Kathmandu, Nepal: Renowned Nepali social worker Pushpa Basnet has been awarded with the CNN Superhero title. Basnet bagged the prestigious award amid a special program organized by CNN in Washington DC of America on Monday.
Basnet was awarded with the title for her contribution in providing shelter and education to the children who were forced to live with their convicted parents in prison. With the award she also received a cash prize of USD 50,000.
She was nominated for the CNN Superhero title with four other previous CNN Heroes Winners Liz McCartney (2008), Efren Peñaflorida (2009), Robin Lim (2011) and Chad Pregracke (2013). Basnet had been awarded the CNN Hero title in 2012.
Basnet has established Early Childhood Development Centre (ECDC) at Budhanilkantha to provide residential facilities including education to the children of convicted parents.
After receiving the title, thanked to the CNN for providing such a prestigious prize. Thank you everyone who voted for me. Especially the CNN team and the Heroes Team and everyone, thank you for making my dream into a reality, she said after receiving the prize.
