Kathmandu, Nepal – February 1, 2026: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has granted amnesty to 267 Nepali citizens serving sentences for various offenses, marking the country’s 54th Eid Al Ittihad (National Day).
The Government of Nepal has formally expressed its gratitude for the gesture. In a press release issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the amnesty as a positive sign of friendship and goodwill in Nepal–UAE relations.
According to the ministry, the Nepali citizens who received amnesty were serving sentences in different UAE prisons for minor criminal offenses, immigration violations, and other legal matters. The ministry added that the process of phased release for the beneficiaries has already begun.
The press release also highlighted the role of the Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi, which continuously advocated for the amnesty through diplomatic channels. After repeated coordination and requests under the guidance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these efforts produced the positive outcome.
The Government of Nepal extended its thanks to the UAE government, relevant authorities, and the Nepali Embassy. It expressed confidence that cooperation to safeguard the welfare, safety, and rights of Nepali citizens in the UAE will continue to grow stronger.
With millions of Nepali workers employed in the UAE, such amnesty measures are viewed not only as humanitarian relief but also as a step toward further strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
