Kathmandu, Nepal, July 20, 2023: A Chinese citizen has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in gold smuggling case on Thursday. The immigration department has confirmed about the arrest of Chinese national from Tribhuvan International Airport.
A Chinese citizen named as Ling Chuwan was arrested while he was preparing to leave Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport. The Department of Custom has said that the arrested Chinese national has been handed over to the Revenue Investigation Department for further investigation.
Similarly, Ashok Lama of Chitwan has also been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the gold smuggling case. With the addition of 2 more people, the number of people arrested involving in the case has reached eight.
About 100 kg of gold, which was brought hidden inside the brake shoes of motorcycles and scooters, was recovered by a team of the Revenue Investigation Department from Sinamangal on Wednesday after passing the customs inspection. The amount of recovered gold has not been calculated yet.
